B'nai B'rith Officials Meet With Ambassador Baxter

They discussed issues of mutual concern regarding human rights and community service

The organization is engaged in a wide variety of community service and welfare activities, including the promotion of Jewish rights, assisting hospitals and victims of natural disasters, awarding scholarships to Jewish college students, and opposing anti-Semitism through its Center for Human Rights and Public Policy. Part of B'nai B'rith Uruguay's ongoing series of programs in community action includes providing medicines and technical equipment to hospitals and to cancer programs in Uruguay, as well as providing technical material for the national dental program for children. While in Uruguay, Smith had meetings scheduled with Uruguay's President Tabare Vazquez, Vice President Rodolfo Nin Novoa, Foreign Minister Reinaldo Gargano, as well as opposition party leaders and the Israeli ambassador to Uruguay. The meeting with Ambassador Baxter included BBI's Senior Vice President Jacobo Wolkowicz; Denis Herrnstadt, president of District 28; Enrique Jinchuk, president-elect of District 28; Julio Szafran, Center for Public Policy chair; and Dr. Eduardo Kohn, BBI director for Latin American Affairs.
