Romero speaks on the US honey market and requirements for
shipping to the U.S.

Agricultural Scientist Ricardo Romero gave a presentation
May 14 on the US honey market and requirements for shipping
to the US in the first Apiculture Expo held in Uruguay.
The event was organized by the department of Florida.
Romero and Commercial Specialist
Robert Gorter, both from the US Embassy attended the inauguration
ceremony and met with Florida Mayor Andrés Arocena
and Minister of Agriculture Martin Aguirrezabala. Later
during the conference, Romero gave a speech on the US market
for honey with information gathered from USDA (APHIS, AMS
and FAS), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Department
of Commerce, and the Department of State.
Approximately 500 people from the region (Argentina, Brazil
and Uruguay) attended the conferences, which were followed
by a round-table discussion and questions from the audience
on trade issues pertaining to honey. The audience expressed
particular interest for the USDA National Organic Program,
and also about the possibilities for exchange programs and
other cooperative activities, such as the Embassy Science
