U.S. Academic talks about the myths of globalization at the University of the Republic School of Economic Sciences

Dr. Gerald McDermott, Assistant Professor of Management, The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, visited Uruguay August 13. Dr. McDermott had a very intensive program which included a presentation at the School of Economic Sciences of the University of the Republic to a group of students and faculty. Under the topic of Economic Integration and Institutional Development, Dr. McDermott spoke about globalization, its impact, trends of international trade, capital flows, the role of the institutions during the process of globalization and the myths about globalization. Dr. McDermott also met with the of Deans of the Schools of Economic Sciences of the public and private universities and representatives of the Association of Accountants and Economists of Uruguay. The visitor was interviews by “Café & Negocios,” the the economic supplement of daily “El Observador.”

Dr. Gerald McDermott has a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.A. in Economics (Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude, Highest Department Honors) from Middlebury College. For further information, please refer to mcdermott@wharton.upenn.edu
