APHIS, U.S. Embassy support course on handling post-harvest crops

University of California professors explain techniques in Uruguay

From March 24 to 26, 2004, University of California, Davis, professors Dr. Marita Cantwell y Dr. Trevor Suslow conducted a training course on "Postharvest Handling of Vegetable Crops at the "Centro de Capacitacion Tecnica de UTE" (Leguisamon 3463 and Lasplaces). The main topics presented included: Postharvest pathology and microbiology overview for
vegetables, modified and controlled atmospheres for vegetables, good agricultural practices for vegetables and postharvest handling systems, and opportunities to improve the distribution chain for vegetables in Uruguay.

This training was organized by the University of California, Davis, and the Ministry of Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries (MGAP), and is being supported by the US Embassy and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS-USDA).
