International Women’s Media Foundation 2005 Fellowship Program for International Women Journalists

September 17, 2004

Washington, DC - The International Women’s Media Foundation today announced that it will be accepting applications from international journalists for its 2005 Fellowship Program for International Women Journalists through November 15. The fellowship, which was launched in 2004, provides international women journalists with experience working for leading U.S. media companies.

“The fellowship offers an international journalist the chance to gain hands-on experience in the U.S. media,” said IWMF Co-Chair Lynn Povich. “The two fellows from 2004 learned skills that they are now building on in newsrooms in Nigeria and Zambia. We are very excited to be able to offer the opportunity to another international journalist to broaden her experience and expand her skills.”

One fellow will be selected to spend four months working with a U.S. media company. The program is open to women journalists living and working outside the United States. A successful applicant will be dedicated to a career in journalism in either the print or broadcast media, currently employed in a media organization and show a strong commitment to sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues upon returning home. Excellent written and spoken English skills are required. Expenses, including air fare and a stipend, will be covered.

The fellowship winner will be announced in January 2005. The fellowship will run from March – June 2005. Applications are being accepted until November 15, 2004.

The International Women’s Media Foundation was launched in 1990 with a mission to strengthen the role of women in the news media worldwide, based on the belief that no press is truly free unless women share an equal voice. The IWMF network is more than 1,500 women in the media in more than 130 countries worldwide.
