Students from the University of Michigan meet with Ambassador Silverstein

The students are in Uruguay to participate in community service projects

Posted: March 8, 2005

18 students from the University of Michigan who came to Uruguay through Hillel, the Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, visited the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo and met with Ambassador Martin J. Silverstein for an interesting talk on the virtues of their mission in Uruguay.

Framed by the Jewish imperatives of tzedakah (righteousness), gemilut chasadim (acts of loving kindness), and tikkun olam (repair of the world), the students are empowered to take responsibility for their Jewish identity, whether they wish to participate in a community service project, express themselves artistically, participate in a social event, engage in informal Jewish learning or attend religious services.

After their meeting with Ambassador Silverstein, the students were given a tour of the Embassy by Public Affairs Officer Linda Gonzalez and Cultural Assistant Lucia Arbelbide.
