Posted: April 5, 2005

The U.S. Embassy in Montevideo will participate in the ExpoActiva National and International Fair to take place near the city of Mercedes in Soriano, from April 7 to 10, 2005. This is the second consecutive year the U.S. Embassy will have a stand in ExpoActiva, an event organized by the Rural Association of Soriano.

The stand will contain over 5,000 catalogs of agricultural machinery, equipment, irrigation systems, seeds, chemical and veterinary products from more than 72 U.S. companies. Representatives from the Embassy's Commercial Section and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) will be at hand to inform visitors about the various products and services offered.

Dr. Wilmer Snell, USDA APHIS Director for Trade Management for South America, will attend the Fair on Friday (April 8) to talk about the Soybean Rust Surveillance Plan. Soybean rust is a fungus disease that affects soybeans. It was first detected in the U.S. and in Uruguay in 2004.
