U.S. Embassy in Montevideo will participate in the ExpoActiva
National and International Fair to take place near the city
of Mercedes in Soriano, from April 7 to 10, 2005. This is
the second consecutive year the U.S. Embassy will have a
stand in ExpoActiva, an event organized by the Rural Association
The stand will contain over 5,000 catalogs
of agricultural machinery, equipment, irrigation systems,
seeds, chemical and veterinary products from more than 72
U.S. companies. Representatives from the Embassy's Commercial
Section and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service
(APHIS) will be at hand to inform visitors about the various
products and services offered.
Dr. Wilmer Snell, USDA APHIS Director for
Trade Management for South America, will attend the Fair
on Friday (April 8) to talk about the Soybean Rust Surveillance
Plan. Soybean rust is a fungus disease
that affects soybeans. It was first detected in the U.S.
and in Uruguay in 2004.
