APHIS and U.S. Seed Potato Board Meet With Uruguayan Plant Health Officials

U.S. seed potato certification was the primarily issue discussed

On 6 April 2005, Tom Schissel and Ricardo Romero from the USDA - APHIS International Services office in Argentina and Uruguay along with Bill Snell from USDA - APHIS Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ), Rick Zink from Colorado State University, and Leah Cochran from the U.S. Seed Potato Board, met with Uruguayan plant health officials Ines Ares and Beatriz Melcho from the Ministry of Livestock Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), Agriculture Protection Division.

Seed potato certification was the primarily issue discussed. Uruguay imports seed potatoes from Alamosa, Saint Louis Valley, CO. The phytosanitary quality of the U.S. seed potatoes is recognized by both the MGAP and producers.
