Inter-American Foundation (IAF) representative Gabriela Boyer visited on May 2, 2005, some of the entrepeneurs that are being supported by Endeavor Uruguay within the framework of an IAF-funded project. Last year, grassroots organization Endeavor Uruguay was awarded a two-year grant to expand its program of identifying, selecting and supporting entrepreneurs to include low-income and marginalized producers. Endeavor is also taking the lead in fostering corporate social responsibility in the Uruguayan business community through a series of conferences.

Small businesses supported by Endeavor Uruguay and funded by the IAF include:

  > La Exquisita (food distribution) - Entrepeneurs: Patricia López and Mario Santillán

  > Villa Pellice (food) - Entrepeneurs Federico Bazzano and Miriam Malán

  > Recoplast (plastic recyclying) - Entrepenuer Gregory Otermin

  > R&O Básicos (clothing) - Entrepeneur Rosario Peña

The Inter-American Foundation (IAF) is an independent agency of the United States government that provides grants to nongovernmental and community-based organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean for innovative, sustainable and participatory self-help programs.

The IAF primarily funds partnerships among grassroots and nonprofit organizations, businesses and local governments, directed at improving the quality of life of poor people and strengthening participation, accountability and democratic practices. To contribute to a better understanding of the development process, the IAF also shares its experiences and the lessons it has learned.
