The National Cancer Coalition of the United States (NCC) and the Embassy of the United States donated medicines in the value of US$2 million dollars to the Ministry of Public Health. The donation was officially marked at a ceremony June 27, at the Instituto Nacional de Cancer (INC), Montevideo.

This is the third installment of a medical donation program that was initiated in 2003 following the signing of an Agreement of Understanding between the NCC and the Ministerio de Salud Publica (Ministry of Public Health). As with prior donations, this shipment is intended for patients receiving oncological treatments in local public hospitals. The combined value of the donations amounts to over 2.3 million U.S. dollars.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister for Public Health, Dr. Maria Julia Muñoz, the U.S. Embassy's Chargé d'Affaires, James G. Williard, the Director for International Programs of the NCC, Dr. Thomas Roane, and the Assistant Director of the INC, Dr. Alberto Viola Allés.

The NCC is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to reduce the suffering of cancer patients and their families by means of advice and assistance. The international program of the NCC focuses especially on the donation of high quality citostatics, and equipment.
