A reception was held at the U.S. Ambassador's Residence August 11 to meet and welcome the new Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) and Mrs. James Nealon. Nearly 400 guests including representatives of all parts of the political spectrum, foreign missions, government officials, military officers, and representatives of the fields of the arts, education and the media, attended the event.

Jim Nealon arrived in Montevideo on July 28, 2005 as the new DCM, and assumed charge of the Embassy as Chargé D'Affaires until the appointment of a new Ambassador.

During the reception, Nealon took the opportunity to get reacquainted with old friends and to meet new ones. He is remembered fondly from his previous posting in Uruguay as Cultural Affairs Officer between 1986-1990 (see Nealon's biographical data), and many of the guests lingered long at the reception to either catch up with old times or to initiate a long and fruitful partnership with the new DCM.

After the reception, Nealon was applauded by Embassy staff, many of whom had previously worked with him. He is widely appreciated for his management skills, his respect for others, and his commitment to teamwork. It is clear that the local community recognizes Nealon as an excellent representative of the United States and a proven and trusted friend of Uruguay.
