Dr. William Smith from the University of Miami visited Uruguay July 27 - August 3, 2005.
The United States Embassy Montevideo
sponsored the July 27 to August 3 visit of Dr. William Smith,
professor of Political Science and International Studies
at the University of Miami.
During his visit, Dr. Smith conducted a
variety of seminars and lectures at the University of the
Republic on the rise of transnational groups opposed to
globalization. He demonstrated a methodology for classifying
these groups and showed why some groups have influenced
the direction of globalization while some of the more vocal
parts of the protest movement have had little impact.
Dr. Smith also appeared on a radio talk
program and gave an interview to the economic review publication
