Chargé D'Affaires Nealon Visits CEPRODIH Daycare Center For The Needy

The center cares for over 70 children and mothers in precarious situations

Posted: August 17, 2005

U.S. Embassy Chargé D'Affaires Jim Nealon accompanied by his wife Kristin and Deputy Chief of Mission Linda Gonzalez visited the Ceprodih daycare center for children of poor, mostly single mothers, often victims of spousal abuse or abandonment.

Ceprodih (Center for the Promotion of Human Dignity) is a non-profit NGO that works closely with institutions like the INAME -a government agency responsible for the protection of minors- ensuring that unless by her own choice, no helpless mother and her child should live on the street. Ceprodih's director Adriana Abraham explained that the organization also runs a 24-hour shelter for mothers and children in the city core designed to bring them off the streets and back on their feet through training and reinsertion in the labor force.

During the August 12 visit, Nealon presented a donation of clothes, toys, diapers, and non-perishable food items, made by the U.S. Embassy staff to help the children and their mothers celebrate Children's Day on Sunday August 14.
