The Embassy recognizes extraordinary performances by its employees

Ambassador Silverstein, Mrs. Silverstein, DCM WilliardOn Feb. 20 the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo held a ceremony recognizing the American and Uruguayan employees of the Embassy who had demonstrated extraordinary proficiency and devotion to duty.

The awards included a Meritorious Honor Award for the Embassy’s General Service Officer, Katie Stana, in recognition of her outstanding service as head of that section in her first assignment overseas. Also receiving Meritorious Honor Awards were Poltical/Economic Officer Oliver Griffith, for his exceptional reporting, Management Officer David Savastuk for his leadership during a visit to Uruguay by the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Dennis Hastert, Press Assistant Rubek Orlando for his contributions to the 4th of July and the visit of Cultural Ambassador Mary Wilson, and Protocol Assistant Ema Talamas, in recognition of her invaluable service over the past year and her distinguished career.

Ambassador Martin J. Silverstein was awarded the Superior Honor Award by the Department of State for securing more than $10 million in donated medical aid for Uruguay to help the country confront problems caused by its economic crisis. Mrs. Audrey Silverstein received a Certificate of Recognition signed by the Assistant Secretary for Western Hemispheric Affairs, Roger Noriega. The award notes Mrs. Silverstein’s efforts to assist underprivileged women and children in Uruguay.
